Music in opening scenes can be a huge deal-breaker. Without a good opening song to match the tone of the movie, the opener is going to be weak or bad altogether. With the right music to go with the opener, the opening will be 10x better.
The music of the opening can change the mood of openings too. Slower music creates a more relaxing and chill mood, while fast-paced music creates action and excitement through the opening. Also matching actions and pacing of things on the screen with the music is key to creating a good opening. If the music does not match the type of opener that is being created, things will seem out of place and disorganized.
For my opener, I wanted to create a dramatic and relaxed scene. So my initial idea was a slow song that had either a sad tone or a slightly happy tone. This would give me freedom between the two options. With the happy tone, I can make the main protagonist look relaxed and unfazed by the situation. But with the sad tone, I can make the protagonist look desperate or in a bad situation.
